Training
Course on Fish Culture in Rice Paddy
For
the purpose of implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on Medium &
long-term Plan of Agricultural Cooperation signed between the Ministry of
Agriculture (MOA) of People¡¯s Republic of China and Ministries of Agriculture
of ASEAN Countries (Draft), MOA will organize a training course in Wuxi
on Fish Culture in Rice Paddy for ASEAN countries (Myanmar, Cambodia and
Laos) during September 9 -24, 2002.
Freshwater Fisheries Research Centre (FFRC) of Chinese Academy of Fishery
Sciences (CAFS) is entrusted by MOA to conduct the training course.
The detailed information of the course is provided
below to facilitate the application process and other related arrangement.
1.
Objectives
of the Course
A.
To enable the course participants have a full understanding on the
concept and principle of culture fish and other aquatic animals in rice paddy
and other related integrated fish farming systems, especially their roles in
overall rural development;
B.
To enable the participants to understand and master the techniques of
different practices of fish/aquatic animals culture in rice paddy and other
knowledge and techniques related, such as seed production and disease prevention
etc.;
C.
Introduce the Chinese experience on aquaculture R&D and extension
system to the participants;
D.
Promote the exchange and cooperation between China and the participating
countries in the area of aquaculture
2.
Major
course activities
To fulfill the objectives of the training course, different activities
will be carried out:
A.
The major activities include lectures introducing the principles,
techniques and management skill related to fish/aquatic animal culture in rice
paddy;
B.
Field visit to the rice-fish farmer to share their practical
experiences, field practice on preparation of rice paddy for fish/aquatic animal
culture;
C.
Discussion among the participants on how to initiate and develop
rice-fish culture under specific environment conditions.
